This lodge pulled up stakes recently and reopened with the same name and staff at a property closer to the two major rivers in the region, the Río Simpson and Manihuales. It is another American-owned lodge, this time an ex-editor of Angling Report, John Jenkins, who settled in this region in the late 1980s. The Heart of Patagonia caters predominately to foreigners, the lodge is still close enough to town, if that is important to you.
The lodge is in a remodeled home built in the 1930s by an Austrian immigrant, and the owner has maintained the old-fashioned style with antiques and other homey touches. The lodge has good Chilean food as well as hiking and horseback riding options (it's probably the best lodge for those with nonfishing spouses).
