El Chaltén is a village settled inside National Park Los Glaciares, in the heart of the patagonic southern mountains, at the foot of mythical Mt. Fitz Roy.It’s pure natural environment offers a privileged scenery with multiple choices in Chaltén (Fitz Roy) outdoors activities and mountaneering.

The area has a lot of excursions to make, i.e. visiting panoramic points in a few minutes walking distance or climbing the vertical rock walls, only reserved for the best climbers.

Briefly, here are the main activities in the area: Lago del Desierto   trekking, climbing, camping, horseback riding, excursions and other as photography, climbing courses, flora and fauna observation, fishing, rafting or visiting local farms called “estancias”.

Ell this has made El Chaltén National Trekking Capital in Argentina. Only 37 Km. far from the village, you can visit Lago del  Desierto, a paradise of centenial woods, glaciars and waterfalls that contradict it’s name (“Desert Lake”). Here you can fish, camp or trekk, among other activities. Behind the huge granite walls, you find the famous Southern Ice Caps (Campo de Hielo Patagónico Sur), the second biggest ice mass after Anctartica. From this eternal ice, glaciers come down –i.e. Perito Moreno Glacier, to the south of the Park– into the lakes of this area.

To get to El Chaltén, you must go first to El Calafate –by plane or by bus- and from there, by road 220 Km. through the patagonic steppe, along Argentino and Viedma lakes.
